Are you an employer focused on ensuring productivity and reducing absenteeism, who also has the health and wellbeing of their employees in mind?

The economic impact of sleep deprivation is huge and it’s increasing.

There is a large and growing body of evidence to show that lack of and/or poor quality sleep can significantly reduce productivity at work and increase absenteeism. Physical ill health, poor cognitive performance and reduced emotional wellbeing and resilience resulting in these issues are all linked to sleep deprivation.

In RAND Europe’s 2017 white paper ‘Why Sleep Matters; The economic costs of insufficient sleep’, their model found that the UK loses up to $50bn per year, equating to 1.56 per cent of it’s GDPR, through insufficient sleep amongst the working population. Workers who sleep less than 6 hours (considered sleep deprivation) report on average 2.4 percentage point higher productivity loss than those sleeping 7-9 hours (recommended average) per day. One recommendation from this paper was, in addition to individuals having responsibility for improving their sleep habits and routines, for employers to “play a greater role in encouraging individuals to adopt healthier sleep-related habits”. With CBTi and therapeutic approaches, this does not have to be at significant cost to the employer and benefits can be seen quickly.

It’s becoming clearer that good quality sleep should be high on everyone’s agenda.

“...Organisations may be overlooking a powerful way to potentially upskill and gain competitive advantage, which could be accessed much more readily, and at far less expense, than broad scale training and innovation initiatives: having a well rested workforce.
